Priorities

The Washington Post tells us about a conference call where Deputy Undersecretary Laura Miller sets the marching orders for all Veteran's Affairs facilities:

What is this priority? Making sure that:

a picture of Secretary [ Jim ] Nicholson prominently displayed.

Last week, under intense questioning from Congress, Dr. Perlin revealed that the VA was running a $1 billion shortfall for the current fiscal year. The hard hearted congresspeople probably don't give a damn that :

Agency officials said Friday that 100 percent of the VHA facilities have reported appropriate placement of the Nicholson photos.

I care, however, that Nicholson ...

was the author of an April 5 letter to senators saying, "I can assure you that VA does not need [additional funds] to continue to provide timely, quality service. . . . "
