At Least It's Not A Pathology

I blogged earlier about the study done to analyze conservative views by reviewing studies done over the last 50 years of the psychological differences associated with left vs. right thinking. When the press release of the study came out, it was quite easy to tell the illiterati of the right by the hooting, chest thumping and feces flinging. The rest of us read it, maybe we smiled and agreed. The smiling deepened as the reaction built, because nothing did more to prove the study's conclusions.

Today in the Washington Post, some of the study's authors try to calmly, patiently explain what conclusions can be drawn from the study. Best of luck guys. Realizing that all you were trying to do is describe a thought process, not diagnose a disease, trying to speak rationally to a profoundly irrational segment of the population is going to be a tough slog.
